Swanson Vitamins Trehalose 1 Lb 454 G

Product Information: 100% Pure Trehalose, a Multifunctional Sugar. A fast-energy disaccharide found in molds and plants. Can be used in cooking and baking as a substitute for sugar. What if you could sweeten food and drinks without sucrose (edible sugar) or chemical sugar substitutes like aspartame or sucralose? What if there were a sugar that not only provides sweetness but also enhances flavor? And what if sugar were actually good for your body? Introducing Trehalose (tree-UH-lowz), a sugar product made available for home use for the first time since its discovery 175 years ago. Trehalose has a sweet taste and provides vitality. This multifunctional sugar is a disaccharide composed of two glucose molecules; upon metabolism, it releases both molecules—twice the amount of glucose released by other forms of storage sugar. This leads to rapid energy. Trehalose is found in large quantities in certain mushrooms, which is why it is also called "mushroom sugar." However, this compound is also found in fungi such as yeast, seeds, algae, and "resurrection plants"—desert plants that survive long droughts and revive when supplied with water. As a sweetener, trehalose does not interfere with natural flavors and does not cause the rapid spike in blood sugar seen with sucrose and other sugars. The enzymes that digest trehalose are found primarily in the small intestine, meaning it takes 2 to 3 hours after digestion to be fully metabolized. This slow process may be the key to the sustained energy provided by trehalose.
