Prepare mold: Before mixing concrete, make sure mold is clean and without dirt. If used before, clean with soapy water. Just brush a little light vegetable oil or release on the form. Release agent is recommended, but not required. Not using a release agent makes it harder to release the stone, and you need to be more careful about damaging the mold. But too much release agent can cause bubbles on the surface. Mixed concrete: Always wear appropriate safety equipment (rubber gloves and particulate mask) when mixing concrete. Mixing can be done by hand in a bucket using an appropriate concrete mixer, a cart with a concrete hoe, or a shovel. It's very important to take the time to mix everything thoroughly. Tip: Adding coloring to the concrete will make the stepping stones look more lifelike and attractive. Filling mold: Fill the bottom of the mold with concrete and pat vigorously to remove bubbles. Then fill the mold completely to the top and smooth the top surface by hand so that the concrete is smooth and even. Finish the mold by tapping and shaking to drain as many bubbles as possible. Curing and demoulding: When the mold is full, place the mold on a horizontal table. Cover with plastic film and wait less than 24 hours for hardening. Plastic sheeting covered with concrete will help maintain humidity in the interior, like a greenhouse, which will minimize surface cracking. After the stone solidifies, it is then carefully pulled up gradually in all directions until it pops out.
